PARTNERSHIP APPROACH TO KIRKCALDY’S FUTURE
Some of Kirkcaldy’s highest profile companies MGt and
Forbo Nairn have joined Marks and Spencer and Stagecoach as
new members of the Kirkcaldy Renaissance partnership adding
weight behind a drive to revitalise the town.
The strengthened strategic partnership of organisations from
public, private, community and commercial backgrounds is keen
to work collectively to secure a programme of projects to
enable the economic and social transformation of the town
centre and seafront.
However,
the Kirkcaldy Renaissance Board is also looking at extending
the geographic boundaries beyond the centre and seafront to
attract funding and further developments for the wider Kirkcaldy
area. Future meetings of the board are expected to discuss
an application for Urban Regeneration company status through
the Scottish Executive.
The
extended Kirkcaldy Renaissance Board has also secured the
appointment of Peter Kearns as their Chair. As well as being
resident in Kirkcaldy, Peter brings with him a wealth of expertise
in guiding the complex Clyde Waterfront regeneration project
in Glasgow. More/
Peter said:” Kirkcaldy has an enviable geographic location
which appeals to business and commercial investors. The seafront
location with its esplanade gives the town an additional potential
to increase tourism and leisure opportunities. In the face
of growing competition it has managed to prosper attracting
new business and housing as well as a strong educational reputation
through the college and its links. We know there are challenges
but we believe that with the right support these can be overcome
to realise its potential to become one of the most successful
urban settlements in Scotland.”
Vice
Chair of the KR Board is another new member, Jonathan Guthrie
Chief Executive of MGt. The company has been in Kirkcaldy
for over 9 years and in that time the company has gone from
strength to strength.
Jonathan
Guthrie is delighted to be on board with Kirkcaldy Renaissance
and keen to promote the town as an attractive business location
which has helped his company thrive.
He said:” We’re proud that MGt is the UK’s
leading provider of outsource support services to the digital
TV and broadcast industry. We chose Kirkcaldy as the perfect
location for our headquarters because of the availability
of an enthusiastic labour force. Being at the heart of Scotland
means Kirkcaldy also sits within a strong commuter belt with
good transport links across Scotland and to the rest of the
UK.”
